CARROLL COUNTY, GA — As cleanup continues in Carroll County, the National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado caused much of the damage during severe weather over the weekend.
Officials say a low-end EF-1 tornado touched down during Saturday’s storms, which brought heavy rain to metro Atlanta. The tornado touched down near Staples Dairy Road and Liberty Church Road, south of Highway 5.
The National Weather Service says the tornado was on the ground for about a mile.
Earlier, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Management reported multiple barns were destroyed and one home on Staples Dairy Road sustained structural damage. EMA Director Brandon Wiggins previously said no injuries were reported as a result of the flooding.
