Looking back and ahead

At the half way point of “Meteorological Summer” (June 1-September 1) the Southeast region of the country has experienced temperatures that have been normal to slightly above normal on average compared to the 30-year climate normals. But interestingly so far summer 2020 has been cooler than the average summer of the past 10 years:

Rainfall thus far for the summer has been near-average for most of the area, but the recent increase in heat and decrease in storm coverage has allowed some spotty dry areas to develop:
