Winter weather advisory for extreme north GA

A winter weather advisory has been posted for across extreme north Georgia, where Thursday’s rain is expected to change over to light snow late in the day.

The rain should end across metro Atlanta before temperatures plunge into the low 20s Thursday night, forecasters said.

The winter weather advisory is in effect from 5 p.m. Thursday through 7 a.m. Friday for Murray, Fannin, Gilmer, Union, Towns, Pickens, Dawson, Lumpkin and White counties.

A wind chill advisory is also in effect for those counties from 1 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, when wind chills could drop as low as -5 at higher elevations, the Weather Service warned.

The National Weather Service said snow accumulations are possible at elevations above 1,500 feet, while icy roads will be possible at any elevation in those counties.
