Cold front brings a taste of Fall to Metro Atlanta this week

A cold front will usher cooler, drier air into Metro Atlanta.

After nearly two weeks in the soupy, tropical weather pattern that featured nearly daily rain chances, a cold front will usher in a dry spell for Metro Atlanta.

Dewpoints will drop from the upper 60s and 70s into the low 50s this week. The dewpoint is the temperature at which water vapor will condense into liquid water, and the lower the dewpoint, the drier the air.

As dewpoints drop into the low 50s, air temperatures will also follow suit, dropping into the upper 50s closer to town, and in the low to mid 50s for the outer suburbs and North Georgia Mountains.

Dry air is quick to cool, but it is also quick to warm up. Afternoon temperatures will rebound to the low to mid 80s, which is on par for mid-September.
