Cloudy skies, spotty showers return for the seventh weekend in a row

Spotty off and on rain showers will make their way through the region this weekend.

After a week of sunny and windy weather, clouds have returned to Metro Atlanta and a chance of rain showers is in the forecast this weekend.

With both the Braves and numerous festivals in town this weekend, it’s a good idea to have a rain poncho on hand for the fun festivities.

Thunder and lightning is not anticipated Friday and Saturday, and the showers will be light for Friday afternoon and evening.

Warmer, more humid air sets in on Sunday, but a lack of a “forcing mechanism” will keep thunderstorm activity limited to the pop-up variety in the afternoon.

Steady light rain showers are expected Saturday morning, but they will likely dry out through the afternoon. A “wedge” will set up over the Appalachian Mountains, and a cool southeast wind will work with the cloud cover to keep afternoon temperatures in the low to mid 70s.

Has it seriously rained EVERY weekend in 2023?!

It certainly feels like it! And it’s a bummer, too -- weekends are the best time to enjoy local festivals, catch up on shopping, or just tend to the lawn and garden.

But Mother Nature has not been cooperative in those plans!

As many as 12 of the last 17 weekends have featured rain on either Saturday, Sunday, or even both days. In other words, 71 percent of our weekends have featured rain!

Below is the month to month breakdown on our soggy weekends for 2023.

January 2023 Weekend Data

In summary, only one weekend was dry in the month of January!

February 2023 Weekend Data

In summary, February featured rain every other weekend.

March 2023 Weekend Data

In summary, March featured rain every other weekend.

April 2023 Weekend Data

In summary, it rained literally every weekend in the month of April!

Unfortunately, it appears rain will return for the first weekend of May. You may need to move your mowing and shopping plans to the middle of the week!

And -- if it rains this weekend -- this would make for 7 weekends in a row of rainy weather for Metro Atlanta!
