During August for Metro Atlanta overnight/morning lows (minimum temps) were warmer than normal on average, but daily afternoon highs (max temps) were near-normal to below normal on average. Rainfall for the month of August averaged above-normal to nobody’s surprise.
August had rain on 58% of days in Atlanta, almost 7 inches fell, which is 2.7 inches above-normal.
Like August the Summer months saw daily high temps near-normal to cooler than normal for most of the state while overnight lows averaged warmer than normal thanks to the high humidity.
Meteorologists and climatologists look at “Summer” from a weather standpoint so Summer is June, July, and August. “Meteorological Fall” starts September 1st.
It was a wet but not hot summer. Looking at Hartsfield alone reveals almost half the days of summer had at least some rain, 47%:

NWS summation for August not yet complete, but the maps above show you what happened. Rain total at Hartsfield was almost 7 inches for the month, 2.7 inches above average.
The number of days with a high of 90 or above was below-average, so was the number of days with a high of 95 or above and 100 or above.
No doubt I got some specifics wrong in my long-range forecast for summer released at the end of Spring, but the main message was that this summer we would avoid having a long brutal extreme hot summer and would avoid another drought. Mother nature delivered and then some.
