Above Average Rainfall for August 2021

During a Summer in which it seems more wet weather occurred rather than dry, August 2021 continued the trend, with rainfall totals trending 2″ to nearly 3″ above average.

In fact, nearly 7 inches of rain fell at Hartsfield Jackson International Airport between August 1 through August 31. Taking a look at the daily climate report from the National Weather Service in Atlanta, it rained as many 18 out of 31 days in the month of August -- that’s 58 percent of the month registering rain!

The average monthly rainfall in Atlanta during the month of September is 3.82 inches and the October monthly rainfall is 3.28 inches. Average monthly rainfall picks back up in November, but it’s still only 3.98 inches. The wettest season in North Georgia is Winter.

As frequent as the rain has been in North Georgia -- and as heavy as it was during Tropical Depression Fred and Tropical Depression Ida -- August 2021 does not crack into the Top 10 for Atlanta nor for Athens.

Drying out in September?

If the lawn and garden is waterlogged and looking for an opportunity to dry out, it is good to know that Fall is traditionally the driest season in North Georgia.
