Much has been made of Philadelphia first round pick Jalen Carter with how he has started his NFL career. On Sunday night, it was the Eagles’ other first-round pick that made some noise.
Edge rusher Nolan Smith picked up first career sack for the Eagles, taking down Miami quarterback Tua Tagavoila in the second quarter.
The Eagles took Smith with the No. 30 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Carter went with the No. 8 overall selection.
Smith wasn’t the only former Bulldog to make an impact for the Eagles. Jordan Davis teamed up with Fletcher Cox on a sack, whit Carter and Kelee Ringo each had a tackle. Nakobe Dean started at inside linebacker and finished the game with 3 tackles.
On the offensive side of the ball, D’Andre Swift ran for 62 yards in addition to catching 3 passes for 13 yards. The Eagles came away with a big 31-17 win over the Miami Dolphins, moving Philadelphia into first place in the NFC.
The Philadelphia-Miami game wasn’t the only NFL contest with a lot of Georgia representation. The meeting between the Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers saw plenty of former Bulldogs in action. Matthew Stafford didn’t have his best day, as he completed only 14 of his 29 pass attempts for 231 yards. Stafford was under siege for much of the afternoon.
As for Pittsburgh, George Pickens once again had a standout game as he led the Steelers in receiving with 5 receptions for 107 yards. Pickens has 27 receptions for 500 yards and 2 touchdowns on the season. He’s been Pittsburgh’s top offensive record as the Steelers now find themselves with a 4-2 record.
Former Bulldog Lorenzo Carter came up with a sack in the Atlanta Falcons 16-13 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Carter’s sack came against Baker Mayfield. The two famously faced off in college at the 2018 Rose Bowl. Carter blocked an Oklahoma field goal attempt in overtime, which set up Georgia’s win.
Baltimore Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith was his usual disruptive self, as he notched 8 tackles and a pass breakup in Baltimore’s win over the Detroit Lions.
It wasn’t all good this week for Georgia though, specifically for the Green Bay Packers. Both Eric Stokes and Devonte Wyatt left the team’s 19-17 loss to the Denver Broncos. It was Stokes’ first game back since last November. The Packers did see linebacker Quay Walker return after leaving last week’s game against Las Vegas. Walker had 5 tackles, 2 of which were for a loss.
