ATLANTA
University of Alabama beat University of Georgia in overtime to win the college football national title just after midnight Tuesday.

No. 4 Alabama defeated No. 3 Georgia in an all-Southeastern Conference College Football Playoff national championship game.
Alabama came back from a 13-point second half deficit after switching to the young quarterback in a dramatic 26-23 overtime victory over Georgia in the college football title game Monday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Devin Bellamy sacked Tagovailoa on Alabama’s first play.
Rodrigo Blankenship kicked a 51-yard field goal on Georgia’s first possession after Jake Fromm was sacked on third down.
Tagovailoa threw a 41-yard touchdown pass on the very next play to give Alabama its fifth national championship in nine years.
Alabama had the No. 1 rushing defense in the country and smothered Clemson in the Sugar Bowl semifinal.
President Donald Trump attended the game and was greeted with a booming chorus of cheers mixed with some boos as he took the field Monday for the playing of the national anthem.
Most of the college players remained in their locker rooms during the anthem.

The president was to take in the game with Perdue, a former Georgia governor who was a walk-on Bulldogs football player, and Nick Ayers, a Georgia native and top aide to Vice President Mike Pence.
Trump left the stadium during halftime.

Before the game began, Mercedes-Benz Stadium was dripping water on to the sideline, seemingly coming from high above the field.

There have been issues with the stadium’s signature retractable roof since construction began on the facility.
