Mike Soroka finished behind the New York Mets slugger, Pete Alonso in the National League Rookie of the Year voting. Alonso broke Aaron Judge’s rookie-record with 53 home runs. Soroka, Alonso and Fernando Tatís Jr. were all in the running for the 2019 NL ROY award.
Soroka finished with one first-place vote, 25 second-place votes and two third-place votes.
During his rookie season, Soroka became just the third qualified rookie pitcher to have an era+ of at least 169, over the last 100 years and the first since José Fernández in 2013. Fernández was 12-6 with a 2.73 era over 172.2 innings pitched.
