Q: Can you tell us what is going on with our Bottlebrush Buckeye bush?

A: Bottlebrush Buckeyes do tend to turn before many trees in early fall, so due to extreme heat, that may be natural- just early. It could also have to do with a lack of nutrients. It’s too late to fertilize now, but plan to do so in early spring.

This native shrub is beloved for its upright, white fluffy flowers in early summer. Flowers are followed by the nut called a buckeye, which are not edible.
