WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A Virginia woman fatally shot a masked man who was armed and standing out front of her house early Thursday, investigators said.
The Prince William County Police said the 44-year-old woman was leaving her home when she noticed the man approaching her from the side of her house.
Officers arrived and found the man on the ground near the front door with a loaded handgun. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.
The woman, who was also armed, shot the man.
The woman was not injured.
Investigators are working to determine why the man was there. They do not believe it was random.
No charges are expected to be filed against the woman, as the shooting was ruled to be in self-defense.
The case remains under investigation.
