Atlanta rapper Gunna arrested on racketeering charge

ATLANTA — Atlanta rapper Gunna has been arrested on charges of conspiring to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, WSB-TV is reporting.

WSB-TV reporter Michael Seiden tweeted early Wednesday that the 28-year-old Gunna, whose real name is Sergio Kitchens, surrendered to authorities in Fulton County, Georgia. He was booked in the Fulton County Jail and is due in court Wednesday morning, the news station reported.

The news came just days after fellow rapper Jeffery “Young Thug” Williams, 30, was arrested early Monday afternoon at his home in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood, WSB-TV previously reported. Williams was booked in the Fulton County Jail on charges of conspiring to violate the RICO Act and participating in criminal street gang activity, the news outlet reported.

Both Williams and Kitchens were among 28 people named in a 56-count indictment in Fulton County, according to WSB-TV. The document alleged that Williams and other members of Young Slime Life “conspired to associate together and with others for the common purposes of illegally obtaining money and property through a pattern of racketeering activity, and conducting and participating in the enterprise through a pattern of racketeering.” The indictment also said one of the group’s objectives was “preserving, protecting and enhancing the power and territory of the enterprise through acts of racketeering activity including murder, assault and threats of violence,” the news outlet reported.

Christian Eppinger, who was accused of shooting and seriously injuring an Atlanta police officer earlier this year, was named in the indictment, as well, according to WSB-TV.

Police believe Williams and two others founded YSL, which began in late 2012, the news outlet reported. The group claims to be affiliated with the Bloods, police said.

Brian Steel, Williams’ attorney, denied the allegations against his client on Monday.

“Mr. Williams committed no crime whatsoever, and we will fight to my last drop of blood to clear him,” he told WSB-TV.
