Indiana deputies seize enough fentanyl during traffic stops ‘to kill over 2,000 people’

Deputies in Indiana seized enough methamphetamine and fentanyl during two traffic stops Tuesday, “to kill over 2,000 people,” authorities said.

Scott County deputies arrested Scott Todd Cope, 32, of Lexington, Indiana, after finding approximately 30 grams of methamphetamine and other drug-related items, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post. Cope was charged with possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance, unlawful possession of a syringe, possession of marijuana and a prior driving with a suspended license, WLWT reported.

Later Tuesday morning, three more people were arrested in rural Scott County after deputies said they found 5.5 grams of fentanyl, a half-pound of marijuana, more than $1,000 in cash and two guns, WDRB reported. Deputies detained Austin Bogan, 25, of Lexington, Indiana; Nicolas George, 18, of Jacksonville, Florida; and Byron Miller, 28, of Lexington, the sheriff’s office said.

Bogan was charged with possession of a handgun without a license, possession of paraphernalia, dealing or possession of a lookalike substance (fentanyl), possession of marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance. George and Miller each were charged with possession of a handgun without a license, possession of paraphernalia, dealing or possession of a lookalike substance (fentanyl), possession of marijuana and visiting a common nuisance.
