SHREVEPORT, La. — A caretaker is facing a second-degree murder charge in connection with the recent death of a Louisiana toddler.

According to KTAL, Shreveport police arrested Tatianna Burns, 39, on Wednesday, nearly two months after a 17-month-old girl suffered "major head trauma" while in the woman's care on June 6, authorities said. The unresponsive toddler was hospitalized and later died, the news outlet reported.

Last month, medical examiners conducted an autopsy on the child and ruled her death a homicide, police said in a news release Thursday. Authorities then issued a warrant for the arrest of Burns, who "was not the child's mother but was the legal caretaker of the toddler," the release said.

Burns is being held on $500,000 bond, police said.
