WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A 9-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the neck after a dispute involving two adults in North Carolina, police said.
According to the Winston-Salem Journal, the incident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday on Forest Hills Avenue in Winston-Salem. A driver was trying to flee the scene of a dispute when gunfire erupted, striking a child in the vehicle, authorities said.
The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital with an injury that was not considered life-threatening, WGHP reported. His condition remains critical but stable, officials told the Journal.
Investigators said they have one suspect but did not release any further details, according to the Journal.
