SHELBY, N.C. — An 8-month-old baby girl is in the hospital after a bullet struck her during a drive-by shooting in North Carolina, authorities said.
According to WSOC-TV, the incident occurred about 10 p.m. Tuesday at a home near the intersection of Wilmouth and Putnam streets in Shelby. The baby’s mother was holding her in bed when at least 15 shots erupted from a vehicle outside, police said. One bullet struck the infant and became lodged in her lung, authorities said.
Officials have not yet released any details about possible suspects or a motive, according to the news outlet.
Police rushed the child to a nearby hospital before crews flew her to Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, WSOC reported. No further information was immediately available about her condition.
