Tolls set for new reversible express lanes on I-75

Transportation LEDE PHOTO - August 22, 2016 Gwinnett County: The cost to drive the 16-mile stretch of "HOT" express lanes on I-85 southbound in Gwinnett and DeKalb counties increased to a record $13.95 Monday, Aug. 22, 2016 according to the State Road and Tollway Authority. That is the maximum amount allowed by law. The previous record, set in November 2015, was $12. The State Road and Tollway Authority announced earlier this month that toll rates for several parts of I-85's HOT lanes would increase starting Monday. The change is aimed at reducing HOT lane congestion and providing "a more reliable and predictable commute for Peach Pass Customers," The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. Drivers who use the new I-75 toll lanes will pay on a sliding scale between 10 and 90 cents per mile.

The State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA) sets the rates for the new south metro express lanes that are due to open late next month in Henry and Clayton counties.

The 12-mile stretch carries drivers between McDonough Road and Stockbridge Highway.  The lanes are reversible, taking drivers into Atlanta in the morning and home again in the evening.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the same dynamic pricing used on I-85 toll lanes in Gwinnett County will apply to the I-75 lanes.  Drivers pay more during the heaviest travel times.  The minimum charge is 50 cents.
