Study: More a than 1M kids went to the ER because of sports injury

Every 25 seconds a young athlete suffers a sports injury that is so bad they end up in the emergency room, according to a new study.

A report from Safe Kids Worldwide finds there is a concussion related ER visit every three minutes.  Kids ages 12 to 15 account for nearly half of all concussions.

President and CEO of Safe Kids Worldwide, Kate Carr says “that’s a statistic that disturbing since younger children with concussions take a longer time to recover than older children."

Girls are eight times more likely than boys to have a knee injury.

The most common injuries are strains and sprains followed by fractures, contusions, abrasions then concussions.

In 2012 1.35 million children were seen in the ER with sports related injuries.
