Georgia sets another one-day record high in COVID-19 cases

ATLANTA — Georgia health officials reported 2,225 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, setting yet another new high-water mark. It follows previous record one-day totals on Friday and Saturday.

There are now 77,210 positive cases reported by the Georgia Department of Public Health (the rise of 2,225). But, only another 22 people with positive tests have gone to the hospital. Seven of those with admissions to ICU. The state reported two more deaths.

Across the board, the age group 18-29 has the most cases of COVID-19 in Georgia: 16,220. But only 3.5% end-up in the hospital. Contrast that with the age group of 70 years and up, where 35% of positive cases go to the hospital.

Georgia is one of many states in the U.S. reporting a rise in positive cases.
