The shock is wearing off in Adairsville, hit hard by Wednesday’s tornado.
The National Weather Service has initially classified the twister as an EF-3 with winds of up to 160 miles an hour. That's the exact estimate WSB Meteorologist Kirk Mellish gave our listeners early yesterday morning based on Doppler radar estimates.
In the meantime, the community hardest hit is now hard at work, trying to recover from that tremendous storm.
“It was very important for me to find those,” she said, “because my dad passed away when I was young. That was all I had of him.”
Holly Baker and her family were digging through what was left of the home where she and her parents grew up over the past two generations, trying to find pieces of their shattered lives. She reached into a bucket and pulled out a couple of water-stained photo books.
No one in her family was hurt, but those photos were about all that was left. Finding them was just the first step in what will be a long process of rebuilding.
