Protestors say 'NO' to immigration reform

Dozens of protestors were crowded onto the sidewalks at the busy intersection of Cobb Parkway and Aikers Mill Road Wednesday afternoon, drawing stares, honks and thumbs-up from passersby over their angry signs denouncing immigration reform. And few of these people are more angst-ridden about it than attorney Karen Sacandey.

“Oh, my gosh! Because Monday, they’re going to vote on the immigration bill that just cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee on a 13-5 vote!” she exclaimed. “I don’t know what they’re drinking up in Washington, DC, but whatever they’re drinking; they need to quit drinking it.”

Protest organizer DA King, who put out the call to a number of groups about the demonstration and provided many of the signs protestors waved at passing cars, said they represent a number of groups that are trying to get a message to Senators Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss: Vote no on immigration reform.

And the people at this protest promised, if Georgia’s senators vote for it, they’ll do so at their own political peril.

“The language (in this bill) is very, very clear. It is a swindle.”
