Robert H. Green was a well-known and respected piano teacher and DeKalb County.
The police also know him pretty well too. They say he is a registered sex offender and he was giving piano lessons to kids, which is a parole violation.
The mother of one of Green’s students tipped off police when she found his name the sex offender registry and called authorities.
Apparently he had been giving music lessons to kids for years. Rina Buckner said a friend recommended him to give piano lessons to her daughter.
“He puts on recitals and he is pretty well known,” Buckner told Channel 2 Action News.
Buckner started getting a little worried when Green bought her daughter, Chemani Baxter, a piano stand, offered her work as a teaching assistant and asked to take her on day trips to play in Athens. Then there were the text messages.
“The first thing that made me feel uncomfortable were the text messages he was sending me at inappropriate hours,” Baxter said.
"I said let me look him up because I need to investigate and see who this guy really is," Buckner.
Buckner found Green’s named on the sex offender registry. He is on five years’ probation. He pled guilty in 2009 to child molestation, aggravated sexual battery and giving alcohol to a minor.
"My jaw hit the floor," Buckner said.
Green, 55, is in the DeKalb County Jail charged with violating his probation, which prohibits contact with minors.
