Police hunt for midtown purse snatchers

Atlanta Police are trying to find two suspects who may be responsible for up to a half dozen purse thefts in recent weeks in Midtown and Buckhead.

The suspects are described as a black man and a black woman with a "star" tattoo on her neck.

The two have been caught on surveillance video stealing handbags at least six businesses.

They include Marlow's Tavern on West Peachtree Street, Jason's Deli on 10th, Tin Lizzy's on Crescent Avenue and the Publix on Peachtree Road.

“They come into the restaurant as a couple,” Atlanta police investigator Jerrian Sheppard tells Channel 2 Action News. “They try to blend in with the crowd.”

“I turned around to retrieve something out of my purse and noticed it wasn’t there,” says victim Erica Rawson who was visiting Atlanta from Colorado. “I was just absolutely flabbergasted.”

In most instances, the thieves take credit cards and run up balances at nearby stores.

One victim had over $16,000 dollars charged to her credit card.
