Police chase stolen tractor through streets of Acworth

A stolen piece of heavy equipment leads police on a chase through the streets of Acworth.

Officers didn't know it at the time, but the Bobcat tractor was stolen from the Cherokee County Water Department.

Acworth Police say four tires on the trailer had blown out causing the metal to scrape the road as the pickup truck was moving about 35 miles per hour.

Sparks were flying as the officer chased it down Lake Acworth Road.

Captain Mark Cheatham tells Channel 2 Action News Kenneth Ethridge was arrested after the bizarre game of cat and mouse with the Bobcat.

"He stated as he was being placed into custody he asked for it not for to be put out on the radio so nobody would know he was arrested," said Cheatham.

Ethridge is a registered sex offender.  He is facing numerous charges in both Cobb and Cherokee Counties.

Cheatham says the trailer was badly damaged, the bobcat being hauled, appeared to be okay.  However, a two mile stretch of Lake Acworth Road has a gouge in the asphalt.

The tab for the road repairs will be picked up by Cobb County taxpayers.
