Athens-Clarke County Police arrest two suspects in the recent theft of thousands of dollars of clothes from the Belk Store in Georgia Square Mall: Anthony Stafford is 53 years old, from Athens; Gerald Dunn is 55, from Greene County. The thefts were reported by the store on Atlanta Highway last month.
A Hall County jail inmate is facing new charges after fighting with jail guards. DeMarvin Bennett is 25 years old, from East Point. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office says the fight happened last month. They say Bennett, while grapping with deputies, tried to grab one of their tasers and tried to push one of the deputies over a jail mezzanine railing.
The GBI is investigating in White County, where 44 year-old Billy Rider is arrested on child porn charges. The arrest happened at Rider’s home in White County.
Investigators are trying to figure out why a 21 year-old man pretended to be a Georgia high school student. Sheriff’s deputies in Baldwin County uncovered the scam when they responded to a report of an unruly juvenile in Milledgeville. They found that Abay Holmes was somehow enrolled at Baldwin County High School as a 14 year-old. He was arrested and booked into the Baldwin County jail on a long list of criminal charges.
