Marshals: Man in wedding photo not fugitive

UPDATE 10.1.16: U.S. Marshals have now determined that the man in a wedding photo widely circulated on social media is not the suspect they are looking for, according to WAVY.

The fugitive, Jihad Amir Ramadan, 30, is accused of stabbing a Virginia-based Hampton University student in 2005 and then fleeing to New York to avoid arrest, U.S. Marshal spokesman Chris Leuer said in a news release.

He was legally born Justin Faustin, but his family changed his name to Jihad Amir Ramadan as an alias.

Though multiple warrants have been issued for his arrest, he got married in 2007, Leuer said.

Ramadan’s last known residence was in New Rochelle, New York, but Leuer said it’s possible that he fled the country and has a new identity.

In addition to Georgia, officials believe that relatives in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, North Carolina, Florida and California might be helping Ramadan hide.

Ramadan also has ties to Trinidad.

He is described as 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighing 175 pounds.

U.S. marshals are offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to his arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call the U.S. Marshals Service communications center at 800-336-0102.
