Movie shoot shuts down roads near Marietta Square

Roads around Marietta Square are shut down due to a movie shoot.

Crews went to work early Friday morning to make the square look like it's 1965 for an Oprah-produced movie.

Winters Street is closed from the square to Waverly. Anderson Street is also closed for two blocks from Waddell Street to Powder Springs. The intersection of Atlanta and Anderson streets will see intermittent closures beginning at noon Friday, which could make it difficult to get to the square.

The last big movie shoot in Marietta Square was in October for "Dumb and Dumber To." Some didn't like the area being shut down, while others thought the presence of stars like Jim Carey and Jeff Daniels brought more foot traffic.

The film currently shooting is called "Selma." It is being produced by Oprah, as well as Brad Pitt's production company. The biopic is about Martin Luther King Jr., focusing on the landmark voting rights marches at the heart of the civil rights movement.

The closures will last through Saturday morning.
