Marlow case before governor

It is now up to the governor whether a Cherokee County school board member will be booted from office pending trial. This comes after Kelly Marlow was indicted earlier this week on charges of lying to police.

Marlow was censured earlier this month by her fellow school board members and ordered to pay $3600 to cover the costs of proceedings against her.

Monday, Marlow was indicted along with her political advisor and a Republican Party official on charges of lying to police when they claimed School Superintendent Frank Petruzielo tried to run them down with his car June 13.

Wednesday afternoon, Cherokee County district attorney’s office sent official notice of that indictment to Governor Nathan Deal, who now has 14 days to appoint a three member panel to decide whether Marlow should be suspended pending the outcome of her trial. That panel will consist of two school board members and the attorney general. Those three people will have another 14-days to make a decision before Marlow finds out if she’ll be forced off the board – at least temporarily.
