Marietta police: Bicyclist killed by hit-and-run driver

Marietta police are hunting for the person who they believe ran over a killed a 55-year-old man riding his bike Sunday evening.

Police say their suspect is driving a black SUV. Cameras from the NCG Cinema in Marietta snapped a picture of the vehicle just before the crash on Powder Springs Street and Natchez Trace.

Witnesses told police the vehicle is either a Cadillac Escalde or a Chevy Tahoe with front end damage.

“That’s something that we need to talk (the person of interest about),” Marietta police officer Michael Gardner told News/Talk WSB. “We can say that it might be obvious, but we won’t know that until we talk to the driver of the vehicle.”

Police say their person of interest left the theater at 7:43 p.m. Sunday with two small kids in the vehicle.  But they aren’t sure if that is the person that hit the bicyclist.

The bicyclist was rushed to Kennestone hospital where he died of his injuries. Police have not released the victim’s name.
