A Christmas tradition will have a new spin this year as Macy's lights an artificial tree for the holidays at Lenox Square Mall.
The tree is provided by Christmas Lights, Etc., which is based out of Atlanta. The 56-foot tall tree will be adorned with 45,000 LED lights. In addition to the new material, the tree will also be relocated to the north side of Macy's parking lot for a more intimate experience.
"For more than six decades, generations of families have shared in the beloved tradition of the Great Tree Lighting on Thanksgiving night," said Michael Krauter, Macy's president and regional director of stores. "This year Macy's is excited to bring a new element to this annual holiday festivity as we celebrate with reusable tree."
Krauter also says that the decision was made so that the tree could be used year after year. He also states that the reusable tree coincides with the company's dedication to sustainable practices.
The lighting at Lenox will take place from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving evening. The festivities will include concerts and fireworks.
