Lumpkin Co woman faces church theft charges in Hall Co

A Lumpkin County woman has posted a $22,000 bond and has been released from the Hall County jail: the Hall County Sheriff’s Office says 49 year-old Alycia Christy stole more than $100,000 from the church that employed her as an administrative assistant. The Dahlonega woman worked at the Northlake Baptist Church in north Hall. Sheriff’s Office investigators say she used the money to pay credit card bills. Church officials learned of the alleged theft and reported it January 12 when Hall sheriff’s deputies responded to their call, says Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch. The thefts are believed to date back to January of 2018.

There are felony charges for a man arrested after a break-in in Elbert County: it is jail without bail for 33 year-old Chris Evans. The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office says he was arrested on burglary and methamphetamine charges after a residential robbery that was reported last week.

Firefighters from Stephens County worked with the Georgia Forestry Commission to battle a blaze that stalled traffic on a stretch of Georgia Highway 365 Tuesday afternoon. At least one car was destroyed in the fire that burned in woods near Toccoa.
