Zoo Atlanta welcomes new animals

ATLANTA — Zoo Atlanta is welcoming some new guests.

Olive the ostrich and Neighomi the zebra will soon be apart of zoo Atlanta’s African savanna.

Zoo Atlanta says while it takes time for the current animals in the mixed species savanna habitat to meet and become comfortable with new friends, guests can expect updates on when Olive and Neighomi to be on display.

The 11-month-old female ostrich comes from an ostrich farm in Georgia and will be a social partner for the zoo’s current ostrich, Purple.

Neighomi is a 2-year-old female zebra, and comes from Oregon to make friends with Wemble and Imara.

“The African Savanna is a destination where visitors can experience the interconnectedness of the wildlife of one of the most legendary landscapes on Earth. We are excited to welcome Neighomi and Olive to our savanna animal population,” said Gina Ferrie, PhD, Vice President of Collections and Conservation. “As animal wellbeing is always first and foremost for us, Neighomi and Olive also represent important new additions for two social species.”
