Water pressure problems impacting dozens of homes in north Fulton County

FULTON COUNTY, GA — Fulton County officials are working on plans to address water pressure issues affecting dozens of homes in north Fulton County.

Public Works Director David Clark says the issues are primarily affecting neighborhoods along Webb Bridge Road and can become more noticeable during periods of increased water use.

“Primarily in the summertime when people are using a lot of water during irrigation periods for instance,” Clark said.

The county’s recent Public Works Master Plan identified water pressure issues affecting more than two dozen homes in the area. Officials are considering installing a booster pump to increase water pressure.

“We’re in the process of designing a project that would basically be the booster pump station that would increase the pressure within the drinking water distribution center for those neighborhoods,” Clark said.

Clark says the project is expected to cost between $1 million and $1.5 million, depending on where the booster pump is ultimately installed.

“Altogether it’s about a $1M-1.5M project that we haven’t quite finalized yet. A lot of it’s going to depend on where the final location is,” Clark said.

The county says the location of the pump will also affect how large it needs to be.

“The pump really is most cost effective when it’s immediately adjacent to where the problem area is. If we go a half a mile down the street either way, that means the pump has to be bigger,” Clark said.

The project remains in the design and public input phase. Some residents have raised concerns about potential noise from the pump.

County officials say more homes could experience water pressure issues as the area grows if the problem is not addressed. The county expects to have a plan in place by next year.
