Tree falls in Marietta; injures driver

Whitlock Avenue home owner Sonny Hemming was asleep when this huge oak tree came crashing down into his front yard and a good portion of this busy street, just west of the Marietta Square. "I'm a real light sleep and I heard this crack, and I said something's going on, maybe an accident".

Sonny went outside and saw the tree covering his front yard and half of Whitlock ave. While he was calling 911 a driver hit the tree. "This lady ran into the tree' she couldn't see it, it was pretty dark".

First responders quickly got the woman out of the car;  Sonny told WSB's Richard Sangster she was more upset she'd wrecked her car.

Whitlock Avenue was closed for a couple hours while a Marietta Public Works crew removed the tree.
