Testimony in murder for hire trial

DeVaughn allegedly killed his cousin's husband for the insurance money

Jury deliberations resume Monday in a Fulton County murder for hire case.

William Eric Clark's mother says her son loved his wife dearly.  That is why she does not understand why she would ask her cousin to kill him.

"Our son was murdered December 13, 2005 and everyday has been a heartache for us," said Clark's mother Janice.  Her family has traveled from Birmingham to Atlanta more times than she can count since her son's death.

Five and a half yers later, a Fulton County jury is hearing the case against the man accused of shooting Clark five times, Jean Pierre DeVaughn.

Prosecutors argue Clark's wife paid DeVaughn to kill her husband so that she could cash in on his $700,000 insurance policy.  She's already in prison, convicted of insurance fraud.

During testimony Thursday, two men who were in the car with DeVaughn testified that he killed Clark.

"I gave him the gun.  He said the lady wanted her husband killed over the phone.  He shot him," the witness who is not being identified, testified.

Attorneys for DeVaughn argue the prosecution's witnesses are lying because they have something to gain.
