13-year-old dies after being shot in the street near his home, Gwinnett police say

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Police are investigating a homicide after a teen was found shot to death in Gwinnett County.

On Tuesday evening, at 5:40 p.m., police were called out to Windward Lane in Norcross about a person shot.

When officers arrived, they found a boy in his early teens who had been shot in the street near his home. He was taken to a local hospital and later died from his injuries.

Police identified the victim as Jaeden Travis. Family members confirmed that Travis was 13 years old.

Travis’s father says he felt helpless as killers shot his son outside his home.

“They set up my son to kill him,” said Harold Travis.

The father said his son had problems with another teen for the last few months.

“They came over here, they jumped him one time. I had to jump in the fight because that’s my baby, it’s just senseless,” said Travis.

“They were calling, sending threats, pulling up to my house. They’re sending pictures of guns, you know, threatening to actually kill him,” added his mother, Jaqueitta Milerson.

Harold Travis said the same group showed up at his home on Wednesday. When they pulled up, he says his son ran outside. Travis said his son went outside with a BB gun, but the killer had a real gun.

“When I saw him running, I came out the house running. By the time I got in the middle of the street, pop, pop, pop, my son went down and said dad I’m shot,” Travis said.

Travis said his son liked basketball, music, hunting, skating and fishing.

“I won’t be able to go finishing with my son no more,” Travis said. “We had a bond like no other, you know. They just destroyed my life when they took my son and shot him.”

At this time, it is unclear if police have a suspect in custody. If anyone has any information to share in this case, please contact GCPD detectives at 770-513-5300.
