Student in custody after gun recovered at metro Atlanta area middle school

COBB COUNTY, GA — An investigation is underway after a gun was recovered from a student at Campbell Middle School in metro Atlanta on Wednesday.

A school district spokesperson said students and staff followed safety protocols, allowing officials to respond quickly, secure the situation and take the student into custody.

A school district spokesperson released the following statement:

“We can confirm that a weapon was recovered from a student at Campbell Middle School yesterday. Thanks to multiple layers of safety supports, including students and staff who did as they are trained, we were able to respond immediately, secure the situation, and take the student into custody. The Cobb County School District Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, work with other law enforcement agencies, and we are grateful that the safety protocols at Campbell Middle worked.”
