(FULTON COUNTY, Ga.) — Investigators in Milton, Georgia say multiple residents reported somebody stole their mailboxes over the weekend, and they want the public’s help to find the thieves.
“It’s something that we haven’t seen before either,” said Milton Police Captain Charles Barstow. “One might normally associate this with some acts of vandalism or juvenile delinquency, but the fact that several of these mailboxes weren’t recovered may be just a new means or method.”
In a Facebook post, police said the incidents happened on Freemanville Rd, Francis Rd and Glencreek Way.
“They’re all within five miles of each other; it’s a pretty vast spread across the north-central part of Milton,” Barstow explained.
One of the stolen mailboxes was found in a ditch.
“We heard three loud bangs; I came outside because the dog started barking,” Francis Rd. Resident Marcus Franco told WSB’s Jonathan O’Brien. “I came out around 9 a.m. the next morning, and I saw that it was gone.”
Franco said the thieves left the mail behind. He and a friend spent Thursday afternoon installing a new mailbox at his home. They plan to build a brick one in the future.
Milton Police are asking the public to review home security footage and submit any tips or information to police.
