SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. — Skeletal remains found by a couple riding four-wheelers in 2018 have been identified, the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office announced.

The couple found the remains off Jackson Road in June 2018 and contacted authorities, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations responded.

The remains belonged to Alphonso Reese, who was reported missing in August 2017 after being dropped off in the area.

Spalding County Coroner Michael Pryor said the GBI crime lab obtained DNA from the remains and they matched with Reese. There were no signs of foul play or drama, but no cause of death could be determined, Pryor said.

“This is a sad situation all the way around, but everyone involved worked hard to identify Mr. Reese and provide his family with as many answers as possible,” Sheriff Darrell Dix said.
