SOUTH FULTON, GA — The City of South Fulton has canceled all outdoor activities, practices and programs at Old National Park after a batch of mosquitoes tested positive for West Nile virus.
The Fulton County Health Department notified city officials after mosquitoes collected near the park as part of the county’s routine surveillance and testing program came back positive for the virus.
All outdoor activities at the park along Pleasant Hill Road are canceled through at least Wednesday night while the county treats the area.
The mayor says the cancellations are a precautionary measure aimed at protecting the health and safety of residents and park visitors.
The city will re-evaluate the restrictions after the treatment and after checking with the Fulton County Health Department.
West Nile virus is usually spread through mosquito bites and can cause life-threatening symptoms in very rare cases.
