Smoking Rate at All Time Low

Smoking rates are at the lowest level ever, according to a new government report.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says cigarette smoking among U.S. adults is the lowest ever recorded, at 14% in 2017.

“This new all-time low in cigarette smoking among U.S. adults is a tremendous public health accomplishment — and it demonstrates the importance of continued proven strategies to reduce smoking,” says CDC Director Robert Redfield, MD,. “Despite this progress, work remains to reduce the harmful health effects of tobacco use.”

According to the report, e-cigarettes are the third most popular tobacco products among US adults, with 2.8% using them daily (cigarettes are the most popular at 14%, and cigars are second). Although that may not seem like a lot, their popularity doesn't show signs of slowing down.

About 47 million (or 1 in 5 ) adults in America still use some form of tobacco product.
