Silver Comet Field supporters claim attacks

Are backers of commercial flights in Paulding County being targeted by bad guys? Officials with ties to the project, including the county chairman, tell WSB’s Pete Combs they’ve been robbed or hacked because they airline service to Silver Comet Field.

Paulding County Airport Authority Chairman Calvin Thompson says he and three other officials, including County Chairman David Austin, have had their homes broken into and in one case, bank accounts hacked.

“It was somebody who’s been hired to come in here and intimidate us,” said Thompson. Along with Austin and Airport Manager Blake Swafford, he blames opponents to commercial air service at Silver Comet Field who are locked in a series of contentious lawsuits over the issue.

So far, law officers say they’ve been unable to link any crimes to the ongoing airport controversy – no matter who the victims might be.

“It’s not true. The allegation is not true,” says Sue Wilkins, one of the plaintiffs in the suits. She says her fellow opponents have also been crime victims recently.
