GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Lawrenceville police say several people were injured when an SUV plowed through a Burger King Tuesday.
It’s unclear how the crash happened, but it left major damage to the building. Crews are now working to shore up the building so that it doesn’t collapse.
Several people inside suffered from minor injuries. The SUV’s driver was taken to the hospital.
GDOT cameras showed numerous firetrucks and emergency workers at the restaurant on Grayson Highway in Lawrenceville. Several construction workers were at the scene as well.
Mims talked to an employee at a neighboring car wash, who said surveillance video at his business showed the SUV passing by at a high rate of speed.
Mims also talked to a woman who was a representative for the Burger King franchise owner. She said the restaurant was just remodeled last year.
The restaurant is closed until further notice.
The driver will be charged with reckless driving and other traffic-related charges. That person’s identity and condition have not been released.
