DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — A registered sex offender is in custody in Douglas County following a child exploitation investigation involving the FBI.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says the FBI provided investigators with child sexual abuse material involving an adult male and a child with ties to Douglas County.
Deputies reviewed the material and recognized the child. Investigators identified the suspect as Robert Burford, a registered sex offender who lives in Douglas County.
Investigators obtained a search warrant for Burford’s home, where authorities say they found evidence that matched the material provided by the FBI.
Burford was arrested and is being held in the Douglas County Jail on a charge of aggravated child molestation.
Authorities say the investigation remains open and active, and Burford could face additional charges.
