CONYERS, GA — Police are searching for the person who is responsible for creating a hox social media post about a possible mass shooting threat against a metro Atlanta area school.
On Friday, officials say Rockdale County Public Schools informed the Conyers Police Department about a social media post circulating locally regarding a possible mass shooting at Rockdale County High School.
Conyers Police Officers began an investigation by deploying School Resource Officers, the Criminal Investigations Division, and the K9 Unit.
“Working with Rockdale County Public Schools, we found that the post originated from a threat against a school in Wisconsin, and the person responsible was arrested in Tucson, Arizona,” Conyers police officials said. “Based on this information, we concluded the threat to Rockdale County High School lacked credibility and seemed to be a hoax. We are deeply grateful for the rapid response from internal staff and external partners such as the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and Rockdale County Public Schools. Our investigation is ongoing as we search for the individual responsible for spreading false information that has disrupted our school environment and community.”
Police are reminding the public that disseminating false information about threats to the school can result in serious consequences, including felony criminal charges.
Police officials say anyone with information that could help identify the individual responsible for spreading the information is encouraged to contact the Conyers Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division at 770-929-4203.
