A patriotic start to Labor Day as 100 runners participate in 5K race in Peachtree City

The National Anthem played as the runners wore their numbers and red, white, and blue 2018 lanyards around their necks. The 100 runners gathered to run a 5K race in Peachtree City to commemorate Labor Day.

The money raised goes to the Midwest Food Bank which feeds thousands of people across the state. The runners gave thanks and praised police and firefighters working this Labor day to keep them safe while they run the race.

Cathy from Tyrone, GA told WSB Radio “It’s time to honor our workers and the people who have worked for our county to make us safe so we can be able to have our freedoms, races like today, where we are working for people who are not as fortunate as we are.”

Will Garner, Executive Director of  the Midwest food bank in Peachtree City tells WSB Radio “We will receive the benefits from these 100 runners who came out and celebrated Labor Day today.  As we say at the Food Bank ‘it’s about sharing the blessings’ and they helped us do that today.”

The Food Bank provides food support to 300 non-profit organizations across the state.
