COBB COUNTY, GA — A 22-year-old man is facing DUI and felony vehicular homicide charges following a deadly crash in Cobb County.
Police say Carlos Garcia was driving a Ford F-150 north on Sandtown Road toward Booth Road when he failed to maintain his lane and crossed into oncoming traffic.
Investigators say Kerby Pierre, who was driving a Honda Odyssey, swerved in an attempt to avoid Garcia’s truck, but the two vehicles still collided.
Police say one of the passengers in the Honda, Keena Pierre, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say Garcia did not have a valid driver’s license, was not wearing a seat belt and was under the influence at the time of the crash.
Garcia is being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on multiple charges, including DUI and felony vehicular homicide.
The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety says more than one in four fatal crashes involved at least one driver with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or higher, and 10% involved at least one drug-impaired driver.
