ATLANTA — Chastain Park is the latest metro Atlanta area where mosquitoes have tested positive for West Nile virus.
The City of Atlanta is treating the area after a mosquito trap at the park came back positive for the virus. The Chastain Park Conservancy said mosquitoes have tested positive at the same location before.
The city’s mosquito-control vendor scheduled an initial treatment for Wednesday, followed by another treatment scheduled for Thursday, weather permitting. Spraying will cover a quarter-mile radius around the location of the positive mosquito trap.
Once the treatments are complete, the area will be tested again.
Signs have been posted around the affected area to alert park visitors about the positive mosquito test and spraying. The conservancy is also encouraging people to take normal precautions to prevent mosquito bites while visiting the park.
Other parts of metro Atlanta have also reported mosquitoes testing positive for West Nile virus, including areas of DeKalb County and South Fulton, where similar steps have been taken.
