ATLANTA — Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is preparing for a very busy Labor Day travel period.
According to airport officials, an estimated 2.3 million passengers are expected to travel through the airport through Wednesday, Sept. 9. That’s a 1% increase over last year’s Labor Day travel period, officials said.
Friday is expected to be the busiest day according to officials, with more than 335,000 passengers projected to pass through the airport.
Airport officials recommend that domestic travelers arrive at least two hours before their scheduled departure. International travelers should allow at least three hours.
Travelers should check all luggage before arriving at the airport. Officials also remind passengers that firearms and ammunition must be unloaded, properly secured and placed only in checked baggage.
Passengers are encouraged to check directly with their airline for flight status, gate assignments and baggage requirements.
Officials recommend allowing extra time for parking, drop-offs and pickups during the busy travel period. People picking up arriving passengers should check flight status before heading to the airport.
Travelers can check real-time parking availability, security wait times and concessions information through the airport’s website. Passengers can also follow the airport’s social media accounts for updates throughout the holiday travel period.
